St. Joseph's offers a rigorous curriculum focused on the whole child's development spiritually, academically, and physically in grades 1-5 laying the foundation for life-long success.
This information pertains to children entering grades 1-5 at different academic levels and with different learning styles. Every effort is made to enhance these learning styles. The curriculum may be modified or enriched to ensure the best possible experience.
Grade 1:
The grade 1 curriculum includes reading and language arts with the implementation of phonics. It also includes math, science, and religion.
Grade 2: Grade 2 builds and enhances the foundation that was established in 1st grade. The grade 2 curriculum also includes reading and language arts, math, science and religion. Social studies is also introduced in grade 2.
Grade 3: Grade 3 continues with the same curriculum as grade 2. This year they advance their reading and writing skills. They elevate their math skills at this time as well. They get more in depth with science and social studies concepts. They also build on what they have learned in religion.
Grade 4: Grade 4 continues to build on the curriculum. It is in this grade that Wordly Wise is introduced, where they learn vocabulary definitions. Spelling and vocabulary tests are introduced weekly. We utilize the Sadlier math text book at this grade level. Social studies, science, and religion remain an important aspect of the curriculum.
Grade 5: Grade 5 students learn to plan and practice organization in all of their work. Grade 5 continues with Wordly Wise and the Sadlier math text book. Social studies, science, and religion remain an important aspect of the curriculum.

Grades 1-5 students participate in our extracurricular curriculum of physical education, music, art/library/media, and Spanish.
All grade 1-5 students participate in the IIM research project. The students learn to research, write, and make a visual representation of a topic. The students also learn to record their findings and organize facts.
